Berghawk Play Report: 22/07/26 (A Greyhawk Campaign set in Berghof)

Here's the notes from the session. Thanks to Magnus for recording!

This ran from c.a. 20-25. The recruitung was understood to take a few days, and the players wanted their injuries and caousing disavantages to heal. Notes from me are italicised.

Berghof session 22.7.26
 
We hired a fighter: Margerethe Unkerich Fighter. She has 40 arrows and a bard Simon Gans.
- Retcon by the DM. Originally the ranger, Mariat gave us a 1,000gp bracelt . The bracelet is actually worth 8,000 (probably need to go to Chiswell to sell). This is because for AD&D monsters you get AD&D prices.
- Cloak of protection +1 to Konrad
Staff of striking – limited charges. One charge inflicts 2d6 damage. Giving it to Mads
Roland left his Elven boots which Konrad will take
Mads took the ring of protection?
 
Currently the 23rd of coldeven
We have been chilling in Kusnia. Travelling to the villa we encounter three fishermen. Frank Fisher who is David Fisher’s son. Giving them a gold piece each, they are teaching us to fish. We catch several fish and then encounter a rather unfriendly bear. We scare the bear off, after some fighting 
We all get 4 fish rations each and a fishing rod.
 
I put together a fishing miniature game which I need to post about soon. 
 
We travel to the villa and encounter some leeches (RightHans went fishing).
We find a 15 foot boat in the villa and a chair that contains a small golden arrow pointing toward the throne room.
We are heading back to Chiswell, it is now the 25th of Coldeven. Cross off three rations for three days then we lose 2 rations each to rats. On the way back to Chiswell, we see some men-at-arms marching south who have heard that the gnoll numbers are getting worse (Gnolls have been seen in Gannaway, causing problems). The party gets 15,000 gp from selling the bracelet and the compass. So we all get 1,875 gp and 1,904xp for the players and retainers get 952 xp

And now a second account from Sturm. With more focus on the important stuff 

Stuff happened. Then we went fishing. Max caught a fish. Then Magus caught a fish.Then, not to be outdone Konrad caught a fish. Then a catfish got away. Then Right Hans caught an eel, then a fish and won the fishing tournament. Then a bear showed up. More stuff happened. Found a boat. Sold a magic compass and a fancy bracelet for a tonne of gold. People levelled up. Might go fishing tomorrow. The end.

Below is the submission I made to the Adventure Site competition. Feel free to use this however you see fit. If you run it or do something else fun with it, let me know! In retrospect I feel like I probably should have specified that it's designed with B/X in mind. But it is what it is. The seed idea for the adventure was to flesh out some parts of the under-explored Berghof region of Greyhawk. In UK3 The Gauntlet there is a Berghof village called Gannaway, that is destroyed by gnolls. This adventure site is the outpost that the gnolls form about 6 months prior to invading Gannaway (for the Greyhawk heads: this is set in pre-war Berghof). I plan to also create the village itself - which was never detailed - and to create a sort of timeline of how the outpost grows and changes as the gnolls become more certain that they will invade. If anyone is interested in joining me on my stupid journey to check out the adventures published in Dragon magazine, I've created a chart. Sorry it's not nicer, I'm bad at technology and this is already a endeavor without me learning html.  Shout outs to DragonDex for creating the original list . All I did was fiddle around with it a bit in excel to sort it by "location" (issue number). I am trusting that whoever compiled this list didn't miss anything. But so far, when it comes to meticulously documenting fantasy nonsense, hobbyists have not led me astray. This was prompted by me asking the Canonfire Discord for good low-level, vanilla fantasy/Greyhawk adventures. A user suggested Citadel by the Sea from Dragon #78. I was vaguely aware that there were adventures in Dragon Magazine but didn't know there were this many, and more importantly that some of them weren't horrible trad slogs (most of them are though). Berghof (Greyhawk) play report 22/04/26

The gang (who are currently debating whether they should keep the name "Stone Smashers" or pivot to "The Punishers" - due to the high volume of puns) planned to ambush the followers of Vecna on their way to the human sacrifice at Vecna's hidden temple. But first they had to deal with the morale of their retainers, who just yesterday witnessed the death of the well loved retainer Loradil. Bilbur the Dwarf and David the Torch Bearer both decided to stay after a well placed motivational talk from Roland and Stern respectively, but Magnus was not able to convince his retainer Arnie to stay on. Arnie told the Magic User Magnus to "gif zem haiiil" before disappearing into the night. The party found some healing herbs and set up camp. The next morning, the party crossed the Hool River and scouted the terrain surrounding the temple of Vecna to find the best spot for an ambush.
