Berghawk Play Report: 12/07 and 05/07 2026 (A Greyhawk Campaign set in Berghof)

05/07 Session 

Between the 24th and 26th of Coldeven 

I unfortunately didn't take great notes of this one, but essentially some time ago during a particular wild session of carousing, Max Dash the Halfling had been given a deed to a haunted house (the Windler House which I brazenly stole from Nightmare of Ragged Hollow). The gang decided to finally clear it out and claim it for themselves. And they did a pretty good job of it! It turned out the haunting was less of a problem. Mites (which I added in place of the strange rat goblins from the original) had made themsleves at home in the place and the gang had to smoke them out. They fled in every direction like rats abandoning ship; hopefully not to become someone else's problem...

The rest of the session was spent pursuing a minor sidequest: Sage Urphantus offered 500gp to find a historic relief that he needed more information about. In game terms this was a blind hex-crawl where the party systematically searched a bunch of hexes to find a location that they only knew the general coordinates of along the way they encountered but did not engage with an arête doused in mist---wolf howls could be heard in the distance.

27th of Coldeven We encounter a 15ft tall ent-like ghost, filled with murderous rage, apparently for all living things, not just us. It waded out of an old growth forest full of enormous, ancient trees. At some point it hit an invisible wall and was not able to advance any further---as if bound to a certain location. 

28th We strike off a ration. We get hailed by a cowled man, he is a monk, Urquant and reading his thoughts we find that he has a dilemma that he wants help with. He was sent to seek information from another monk, Quern - unfortunately hanged and guarded by 2 Winged stone men, somewhere to the south, near Kusnir. Urquant joins our party, at least temporarily. Searching for the bas relief, we find it in a densely plant covered ravine. The relief appears to depict a story, in pictures of copper-skinned people, underneath a picture of a menacing lord. Then there is an appearance of a hero who defeats the menacing lord. The next picture details the arrival of a darker, maroon coloured people, they are under a picture of a menacing bat figure, then there is the depiction of a battle at which the bat figure is defeated and the hero dies. 

29th of Coldeven (strike off a ration) we arrive back in Chiswell in the evening of the first day of Growfest, the feast of Edoira. After carousing, we wake the next day, lost in the woods. It takes us another day to get back to Chiswell so now... 

the 30th (strike off a ration). We meet 6 exhausted travelers in the evening, before we get back to Chiswell, one of whom is a muscular halfling, name of Sixtoe, who says that Ganaway has been attacked by 200 Gnolls. On our return, we inform Kiril the head of the guard of this who takes us to meet the town Elder Walter Grauheimer. We gain 41 gp, retainers get 20xp, each character gets 276 xp. 

1 of Growfest  The festivities begin in Chiswell despite the gnoll raiding parties that took down Gannaway. Walter Grauheimer decided that cancelling the celebrations would only cause panic. 

The party witness festivities with locals dancing around the Greyhawk equivalent of a May pole. 

While the majority of the party recover in Chiswell, and Magnus researches a new spell, the cleric Mads takes it upon himself to travel South to Kusnir with a handful of adventurers. The goal is to warn Kusnir of the gnoll invasion that overran Gannaway. He runs into a fight with Ogres and hunting dogs, Kallista the barbarian retainer dies. Her last words: "Bury me in Moonfont!" XP for each character except Magnus, Max and the two Hans’. 51 xp each and half that for the retainers.
